Steve McLaughlin Named Assistant Superintendent, Curriculum and Instruction

Fountain Valley, CA, July 22, 2015: The Fountain Valley School District Board of Trustees named Steve McLaughlin, Ed.D., Assistant Superintendent, Curriculum and Instruction for the Fountain Valley School District effective July 20, 2015.

Dr. McLaughlin joins the Fountain Valley School District from the Newport Mesa Unified School District. Dr. McLaughlin has been a middle and high school history teacher, high school Activities Director, high school assistant principal, middle school principal, Director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction, and most recently, Director of K­12 Curriculum/Instruction & Professional Development in Newport­Mesa Unified School District. He has done substantial work in Common Core implementation, technology integration, assessment, teacher collaboration, literacy, curriculum development, leadership, instructional coaching and rounds, and principal mentorships. In his current role, Steve has also led the vertical articulation efforts between the elementary and secondary programs, ensuring greater instructional coherence and teacher collaboration.

Superintendent Dr. Mark Johnson noted, “We are excited to have Dr. McLaughlin join our District. He brings with him a track record of proven success and a collaborative approach to ensuring that every student is prepared for the future. We are confident in his ability to continue the great work of our district and welcome him to the FVSD family.”

Steve McLaughlin shared his excitement regarding his appointment, saying, "I am honored to join the Fountain Valley School District. I look forward to working alongside the teachers, classified staff, the Board of Trustees, administrators, parents, and community to continue to deliver the many programs and services that help our students learn at high levels. I can’t wait to get started and am especially excited to see the kids and staff this fall.”

Dr. McLaughlin earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of San Diego, a master’s degree in education administration from Cal State San Marcos and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Southern California. He lives in San Clemente with his two daughters.
