Ms. Summerhays joined the FVSD Family in 2003 at Newland Elementary School before transferring to Plavan Elementary School in 2010. She quickly established herself as a highly-skilled and gifted educator and mentor. She has continued to share her passion for teaching and learning, contributing greatly to various committees and leadership teams throughout the District. Moreover, Jill has created a learning environment for her students that is second to none. Her love for her students is apparent upon walking into her classroom and she is committed to making her students, team and colleagues feel like family.
Principal Patrick Ham noted, “Ms. Summerhays loves her job and loves people. This permeates into her relationships and interactions with her students, staff and parents. She is extremely skilled with great expertise and knowledge of the strategies that best support her students. Our families are truly blessed to have Jill working with their children. We are grateful to Ms. Summerhays for who she is and her contributions to our students and school. Plavan would not be what it is today without her!”
Ms. Summerhays was surprised earlier this week with the announcement of her recognition. Joined by her family, friends and colleagues, members of the Board of Trustees and senior staff stopped briefly by Plavan to share this good news with her. Upon being honored Ms. Summerhays said, “It’s a pleasure working in a district where my growth as a teacher has been supported by instructional aides, fellow teachers, service providers, principals, and district administrators. I am thankful to work in a district I genuinely love."
Assistant Superintendent, Personnel, Mrs. Cathie Abdel shared, “Jill Summerhays is a ray of sunshine! Her passion for teaching and learning and her love for children is apparent in everything that she does. She is a glowing example of what it means to be an exemplary educator in the Fountain Valley School District. Moreover, Jill is committed to working with all of her students to ensure that they reach their highest potential. She establishes a firm foundation and sets them up for success well into their educational careers. Ms. Summerhays is a remarkable educator who represents the very best of our profession and District!”
