Fountain Valley, CA, September 30, 2014: U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced that Newland Elementary School, Fountain Valley School District, was named as a 2014 National Blue Ribbon School today. Only three Orange County schools were named 2014 National Blue Ribbon Schools. Newland Elementary was one of only 48 schools nationwide designated an “Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing School.” Secretary Duncan said, “National Blue Ribbon Schools are models of consistent excellence and a resource for other schools and districts. We celebrate them for their tireless effort and boundless creativity in reaching and teaching every student.” In his video announcement, Duncan remarked, “Your schools are setting high expectations for all learners.”
Mr. Christopher Mullin, Principal at Newland Elementary, said, “We are very pleased with how teachers, staff, parents and students work together to give each and every student the opportunity to achieve excellence in their education. The success of every child is important to each one of us here at Newland Elementary and in the Fountain Valley School District.”
Dr. Marc Ecker, Superintendent of the Fountain Valley School District, emphasized, “We are very pleased that Newland Elementary has won this highly prestigious award. We join the staff and parents of Newland in celebrating this first National Blue Ribbon award for our school district. The Fountain Valley School District has been consistently one of the highest achieving school districts in Orange County. With this award for Newland Elementary, that is now being recognized nationally.”
