2020-21 Instructional Schedules
Fountain Valley School District is prepared to offer both in-person instruction and virtual/remote instruction for the 2020-21 school year. As part of the registration process, we are asking families to identify one of two options as their preferred instructional model – either 1) In-person (full-year Modified Traditional or Hybrid/Blended) or 2) Virtual/Remote (full-year online only program). Below, you will find descriptions of these models – Modified Traditional – Hybrid/Blended – Virtual/Remote - for your review. FVSD’s goal is for schools to be able to open with the Modified Traditional Model; however, if we are not able to do so safely, the students who register for the In-person model will automatically be enrolled in the Hybrid Program. Documents providing daily schedules of the model are available on the FVSD website at https://www.fvsd.us/apps/pages/SchoolsReopening.
IN-PERSON HYBRID SCHEDULES
Hybrid/Blended Model (In-person Model)
Students will be on-site less than five days per week with Virtual/Remote learning available for students on days they are not on campus. Hybrid offers a structured learning environment in a familiar face-to-face setting while also allowing for greater levels of social distancing and modified social interaction. This model creates strong routines for students. Hybrid requires social distancing and PPE while students are on campus. Students will attend campus in person 40-50% of the time. Modified schedules are needed to support additional lunches and recesses. FVSD will provide families that need daycare with options that support times when students are not on campus.
- Based on Public Health guidance, there may be a transition between in-person and virtual learning during the school year.

FULL YEAR VIRTUAL-REMOTE SCHEDULES
Full Virtual/Remote (Virtual/Remote Model)
Students will not be on site, and the curriculum and instruction is completely online for the entire school year. Full Virtual/Remote includes daily live virtual interaction between teacher(s) and students. Students can work at their own pace, based upon teacher direction, and complete work on their own schedule. There is a lowered safety risk with this model. However, there is reduced direct interaction with other students, home support is necessary, as well as challenges with at-home learning environments and daycare needs for working families. FVSD will provide families that need daycare with options that support times when students are not on campus.

MODIFIED TRADITIONAL IN-PERSON SCHEDULE
Modified Traditional (In-person Model)
Students will be on-site five days per week with full Virtual/Remote Learning available should a classroom, school site, or the entire district be closed for shorter periods of time. Modified Traditional offers students and staff a structured learning environment in a face-to-face setting with modified social interaction. This model creates strong routines for students. Social distancing and PPE are required, in addition to modified schedules to support additional lunches and recesses.
- Based on Public Health guidance, there may be a transition between in-person and virtual learning during the school year.
