Welcome to 6th grade! Whether you are a T-bird, a Falcon, or a Monarch, your new middle school teachers can’t wait to meet you! Let’s get you ready for all the reading and writing you will be doing as a 6th grader by practicing some essential skills.
This week you will focus on how to make your writing the best it can be.

- Click on the link above, and open the text set on NewsELA.com. If you have not yet logged into NewsELA with your elementary teachers, see the attached guide for instructions.
- Choose one article from the text set to read.
- As you read, annotate (highlight the text and make notes in the margin) to answer the essential question below:

Writing: Revising and Editing Your Work
- Time to revise! Use the strategies you read about this week to help you edit and revise your work. Some tips for editing are:
- Read your work aloud to yourself or someone in your family, listening for any fragments or run-on sentences--use what you learned this week to help you revise!
- You could also email your paragraph to a friend and ask them to read it. Often a friend can catch an error that you may have missed.
- When you are done, share your finished work with someone in your family.
