  • Watch this video for a review of the language we use to describe a poem. 

  • Practice analyzing how author’s use figures of speech to make meaning, and continue to improve your own writing skills by working towards 90-100% proficiency on the three IXL focus skills listed below:

  • Read the poem linked above. As you read, consider the following question (Discussion Question #2)
    • In the context of the poem, what can individuals gain from spending time in nature? How is the relationship between humans and nature portrayed in this poem?
    • Answer the question in your summer writing journal

Writing: Responding to your reading

  • After reading one informational text and two of the poems, answer the following question in your summer reading journal: 
    • Can you make a connection between the central idea of the informational text you read and the theme of the poems? What do all three texts have to say about our relationship with the natural world? 
    • Use evidence from both the informational text and the poems to support your answer. 
    • Write a complete paragraph. When you are done with your first draft, edit your work by checking for fragments, run-on sentences, redundant words or phrases, and other grammatical errors.
    • Share your revised paragraph with someone in your family!
