“The success of our schools depends upon the support of our community, and I want to give every member of our community the opportunity to meet me and get to know our schools better,” said Dr. Johnson. “A recent community survey gave our schools an excellent rating by many community members, and also showed that a large number did not know us well. We want to continue to reach out to business and community leaders, senior citizens and other stakeholders whether they have a student in our schools currently or not.”
Mark Johnson joins the Fountain Valley School District from the Los Alamitos Unified School District, where he has served for 15 years as a middle school teacher, site administrator and most recently as Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services. Last year, Dr. Johnson was recognized as the Los Alamitos Unified School District 2014 Administrator of the Year, commended for promoting “a culture that supports ongoing learning, reflective practices, creativity and innovation.”
Ian Collins, President of the Fountain Valley School Board, remarked, “Mark Johnson lives right in our community with his wife Susan, an elementary teacher, and their three young daughters. Please join in welcoming him to his new role as our Superintendent. We continually seek community input on our priorities – what we should preserve and what we need to improve about our local elementary and middle schools here in the Fountain Valley School District.”
Dr. Johnson earned a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in English from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, a M.A. in Education Administration from National University and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California.
