Transfers

The Fountain Valley School District serves students from Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 8th grade. We encourage families to enroll their children in their designated neighborhood "home" school based on their home address. If you are unsure about your child’s homeschool, please use our School Locator.

Note: Fountain Valley High School is not part of the Fountain Valley TK-8 District. For high school enrollment (9th-12th grade), please visit the Huntington Beach Union High School District website.

Important Registration Dates:

  • Monday, February 2 – Friday, March 13, 2026 -- Intra-District Transfer Window

  • Monday, March 2 – Wednesday, April 29, 2026 -- FVSD Inter-District Transfer Window

  • Thursday, February 19, 2026 -- Transitional Kindergarten & Kindergarten Welcome Event

  • Friday, February 20, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. -- Enrollment for New Students for 2026–27 School Year Opens

 

Returning FVSD Residents

If you are returning to the Fountain Valley School District, welcome back! To ensure a smooth transition, please review the registration process. Use our School Locator to confirm your home school.

 

Enrollment for the 2026-27 school year begins on the dates listed above. To enroll, visit your school site and notify the office team that you would like to register for the upcoming school year.

Transferring Within FVSD Schools (Intra-District Transfers) If you want to enroll your child in a school other than your designated home school, please complete an Intra-District Transfer Form and submit it along with proof of residency to your home school. The transfer request period is Monday, February 2 – Friday, March 13, 2026.

Transferring to the Fountain Valley School District (Inter-District Transfers)

If you reside outside the Fountain Valley School District (FVSD) but wish to enroll your child in one of our schools, please follow these steps:

  1. Visit your home district and submit an Inter-District Transfer Request.
  2. If your home district approves your request, it will be sent to FVSD for review.
  3. FVSD will notify you of the decision based on available space at your chosen school site.

Important Dates:

  • The district begins accepting transfer requests on Monday, March 2nd, for the 2026-27 school year.
  • Transfer requests for the current school year are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Transfer Agreement and Priority

Inter-District Transfer Agreements:

  • They are valid solely for the school year for which they are granted and expire at the conclusion of that school year.
  • Must be renewed each year.
  • Priority is granted to families who submit their forms by Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

Approval and Lottery Process

Approval is contingent upon:

  • Space availability within the District, at the specific school site, and within designated grade levels or programs.
  •  Adherence to all District policies.

 When requests surpass available spots, then...

  • A lottery will be held for placement.
  • Forms must be submitted to the FVSD Business Office by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, to be included in the lottery.
  • Late submissions will be placed on the waiting list on a first-come, first-served basis.

Revocation of Transfer Agreement

Inter-District Transfer Agreements may be revoked for the following reasons:

  • Excessive tardiness, absences, early drop-offs, or late pick-ups.
  • Poor academic performance.
  • Failure to follow behavior standards.
  • Insufficient space in the school and/or grade level.
  • Providing false or misleading information.
  • Failure of students or parents to comply with school rules.

Transferring Out of Fountain Valley School District (Inter-District Transfers)

Parents or legal guardians requesting an Interdistrict Transfer to a school outside the Fountain Valley School District (FVSD) must first complete the Interdistrict Transfer Release Form listed.

The form linked is required for ALL families wishing to transfer out of the Fountain Valley School District.

Please note:

  • This form is not for families transferring into Fountain Valley.
  • Families seeking to transfer to the Fountain Valley School District should contact their current district to obtain the necessary paperwork.
 

Transfer Request Notifications and Appeals

  • The District will notify parents of its decision within:
    • 30 calendar days for current-year requests.
    • 14 calendar days after the start of the school year for future-year requests.
  • Appeals: If a transfer request is denied, parents have the right to appeal to the Orange County Board of Education within 30 days of the denial.
  • Timelines: Failure to adhere to the District's timelines will be considered abandonment of the transfer request.

The information provided to Fountain Valley School District (FVSD), during the enrollment process will be used to determine that the student resides within the FVSD attendance boundaries, the school within those attendance boundaries to which the student will be assigned, and to identify unique educational programming services to which the student may be entitled. Information collected will be used for no other purpose, such as restricting or denying enrollment or treating a student differently in determining whether he or she satisfies any admission or enrollment criteria.
