Chosen from among nominees across Orange County, Jose is one of nine classified employees recognized this year for their exceptional service to students, families, and school communities.
Jose has served as a bus driver in Fountain Valley School District for more than 11 years, building a reputation for professionalism, care, and an unwavering commitment to student safety. Over the course of his career, he has maintained a collision-free and citation-free record, safely transporting students to and from school each day.
Jose often describes his bus as a “classroom on wheels,” where respect, kindness, and safety come first. Families frequently request him by name, noting his calm demeanor and positive communication with students and parents.
Beyond his daily route, Jose mentors new drivers, supports field trips, and takes pride in maintaining a welcoming and well-organized bus environment. His dedication helps ensure that students begin and end each school day feeling safe and supported.
When district leaders learned of the honor, colleagues surprised Jose with balloons and a congratulatory sign to celebrate the moment and recognize the important role he plays in the district community.
The countywide recognition program, established by the California Department of Education, highlights outstanding classified school employees who support California’s more than six million public school students.
Jose and the other honorees will be formally celebrated during Classified School Employee Week, May 17–23.
