FVSD Extreme Heat Advisory: Safety Guidance & Campus Actions

With an excessive heat forecast for the coming week (Monday, October 5 through Friday, October 9, 2026), we want to share how the Fountain Valley School District will keep students safe and as comfortable as possible.

FVSD follows current guidance from the California Department of Education (CDE), California Department of Public Health (CDPH). We will continue to monitor weather conditions, school facilities, and individual school needs, adjusting activities as necessary.

Schools will remain open on their regular schedules. Because conditions may vary by school and throughout the day, outdoor activities, events, or locations may be modified when needed.

For the month of October, FVSD is focusing on Citizenship.

At FVSD, being a good citizen involves understanding our country’s founding principles, acting responsibly, and engaging with others through positive participation and selfless service for society. Throughout the month, educators and staff will emphasize how civic responsibility, mutual respect, and service to others strengthen our entire community.

FVSD 5th Graders Explore Hands-On STEM at Los Alamitos STARBASE Academy

Newland Elementary 5th graders recently completed an exciting, week-long day trip series to the STARBASE Academy, located at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos.

The STARBASE program offers students high-energy, interactive learning experiences focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Each day, students traveled to the base to participate in practical scientific experiments, computer-aided design (CAD) activities, and collaborative engineering projects led by specialized instructors.

The week proved to be a remarkable experience for the students. Beyond the engaging classroom curriculum, traveling to the base during local Airshow week offered students a unique opportunity to see real-world aviation demonstrations and military aircraft up close.

In honor of National Custodial Workers Day, the Fountain Valley School District is proud to recognize and celebrate our outstanding custodial staff. As the saying goes across our district this week: We’d be a mess without you!

Our custodians work diligently behind the scenes and on campus every day to ensure our facilities remain clean, safe, and welcoming for students, staff, and our community. Tackling every task with care, efficiency, and exceptional attention to detail, they play an essential role in creating optimal learning environments across FVSD.

Talbert Middle School STEM Students Experience World-Class Aviation at 10th Annual Pacific Airshow

Talbert Middle School STEM students experienced high-energy, real-world learning in their own backyard on Friday, October 2, during an educational field trip to the Pacific Airshow in Huntington Beach.

Marking its 10th anniversary, the Pacific Airshow holds the title of the largest airshow in the United States by attendance. The three-day event features military flight demonstrations, precision aerobatic maneuvers, and family-friendly entertainment along the Orange County coast.

Masuda Middle School PAL Students Inspire Young Readers at Cox Elementary

On Friday, student leaders from Masuda Middle School’s Peer Assistance Leadership (PAL) program paid a special visit to Cox Elementary to read directly to Kindergarten classes. The cross-age reading session brought smiles and stories to the youngest learners while giving middle school students a chance to put their leadership skills into action.

The PAL program is built on a simple yet powerful philosophy: students helping students. Designed as a school-based, peer-to-peer youth development framework, PAL empowers students to build a positive school climate through youth leadership, cross-age teaching, peer helping, service learning, and prevention activities.

Tamura Tigers Put Physics to the Test in Dynamic Energy Lab

Last week, 4th-grade students at Tamura Elementary took a hands-on approach to physical science, investigating the relationship between speed and energy. Through interactive experiments, the young scientists explored a fundamental concept: a faster-moving object carries more energy than the same object moving at a lower speed.

To test this principle in action, Tamura Tigers designed ramps of varying heights and launched test cars down the inclines. By observing and measuring how the cars' impacts varied depending on their speed and ramp height, students saw firsthand how potential energy converts into kinetic energy.

Fulton and Talbert Cheerleaders Take the Field with Edison High Chargers

It was a true celebration of community spirit and school pride at Sheue Field as the Edison High School Cheer team hosted cheerleaders from Fulton Middle School and Talbert Middle School for a Friday Night Lights football game against the Palos Verdes Sea Kings.

The middle school cheerleaders joined the Chargers on the sidelines, getting a firsthand taste of high school game-day traditions, performing cheers, and energizing the crowd. This annual cross-campus collaboration offers younger students a exciting preview of high school athletics while strengthening connections across our school community.

Courreges Elementary PTA Hosts Touch-A-Truck, Car Show & Community Food Drive

Courreges Elementary School was bustling with excitement as the Courreges PTA hosted its hands-on Touch-A-Truck Event & Car Show. The interactive community event gave children the unique opportunity to climb aboard, sit behind the wheel, and explore a wide variety of real-world vehicles up close.

Young attendees got a hands-on look at emergency vehicles, police cruisers, new and vintage fire trucks, tractors, dump trucks, garbage trucks, tow trucks, and classic cars. Local food trucks were also on site, serving up delicious bites for families enjoying the festivities.
