The OCDE PAL initiative empowers student leaders in grades 4 through 12 to build safe, inclusive, and supportive campus environments. This year, the county recognized only six school-based programs and three advisors who have gone above and beyond—and FVSD took home two of those coveted spots.
Gisler Elementary Surprised with 'Outstanding PAL Program' Award
It was an unforgettable Friday Flag assembly at Robert Gisler Elementary School when a representative from the OCDE took the stage to surprise the entire campus. Gisler Elementary was officially named an Orange County Outstanding PAL Program Award honoree.
Led by dedicated co-advisors Mrs. Bailey Moses and Mrs. Alison O'Dell, the Gisler PAL students were brought up in front of their cheering peers to celebrate their massive achievement. The Gisler PAL program plays a vital role on campus, encouraging young students to lead with heart through peer mentoring, service learning, and student-led outreach.
To mark the achievement, the school was presented with an official OCDE banner to hang proudly on campus, and every PAL student received an individual certificate of achievement signed by County Superintendent Dr. Stefan Bean.
Fulton’s Rolando Vivar Named 'Outstanding PAL Advisor of the Year'
The celebrations continued at Fulton Middle School, where the fourth-period bell brought an emotional surprise for PAL Advisor Mr. Rolando Vivar. District Cabinet members, school administrators, and special guests caught Mr. Vivar completely off guard to announce he had won the Orange County Outstanding PAL Advisor Award.
Mr. Vivar was one of just three advisors selected across the entire county. Known for his unwavering dedication to student well-being and leadership development, Mr. Vivar has mentored countless Fulton students, helping them find their voices and build a compassionate, inclusive campus culture. His leadership exemplifies the very best of FVSD’s commitment to student success and mentorship.
Leading the Way in School Climate and Connection
Since its inception in 1980, the PAL program has been a cornerstone for cultivating positive campus climates, addressing crucial areas like peer connection, mental health awareness, and bullying prevention.
"The OCDE PAL team is inspired by the trained student leaders who represent 157 active PAL programs," said Deirdre Hill, OCDE project liaison for Youth Development Programs. "Judging applications is a challenge. We congratulate the programs being recognized for going above and beyond in their work supporting inclusive and positive school communities."
Congratulations to the Gisler PAL students, Mrs. Moses, Mrs. O'Dell, and Mr. Vivar for representing the Fountain Valley School District so beautifully at the county level!
