What FVSD Will Do
-
Monitor Conditions: Track National Weather Service HeatRisk, CalHeatScore, local weather, and on-site Wet Bulb Globe Temperature readings for strenuous activities.
-
Adjust Schedules: Modify, relocate, reschedule, or cancel recess, PE, athletics, outdoor instruction, expanded learning activities, and events as conditions require.
-
Provide Relief: Ensure access to drinking water, shade, cool-down areas, and air-conditioned indoor spaces.
-
Address Facilities: Relocate students if cooling systems or other facility conditions are insufficient.
-
Communicate: Notify families of any significant changes affecting their school or student activities.
How Families Can Help
-
Send Water: Provide your student with a refillable water bottle and encourage frequent hydration throughout the day.
-
Dress Appropriately: Choose lightweight clothing and consider a hat and sunscreen for outdoor time.
-
Encourage Self-Care: Remind your student to tell an adult immediately if they feel dizzy, weak, nauseated, unusually tired, confused, or otherwise unwell.
-
Update Health Information: Ensure the school has current information about medical conditions or medications that may increase heat sensitivity.
-
Stay Informed: Watch for school and District messages regarding activity or schedule changes.

| 1 Yellow | Increase hydration and monitoring, particularly for students who are more sensitive to heat. |
| 2 Orange | Reduce time in the sun and strenuous activity; increase water and rest breaks; use shade or cooled spaces; move activities to cooler times when possible. |
