FVSD Hosts Special Education Families Meet & Greet to Build Connections and Share Practical Strategies

Practical Key Takeaways for the Home

A stand-out highlight of the gathering was the interactive presentation on Executive Functioning. Leaders shared clear definitions, visual tools, and age-appropriate strategies designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and home routines:

  • Pre-K & Primary Strategies: Practical tools including "first-then" language structures (e.g., "first snack, then homework"), picture icon chore charts, visual token schedules, and emotion-regulation strategies for dysregulated moments.

  • Upper Elementary Strategies: Tools to foster independence, such as visual checklists for household chores, step-by-step recipe guides, simple board/card games to build self-regulation, and laminated daily check-off sheets for backpack preparation and bedtime routines.

Partnering with Our Community

Throughout the session, presenters shared their expertise with warmth, passion, and deep care for student success. By offering concrete tools and open dialogue, the Meet & Greet reaffirmed FVSD’s strong commitment to partnering directly with families to support the growth and well-being of every child.

Thank you to our Special Education leadership team and to all the parent and guardian leaders who attended to make this event such a resounding success!
