Dr. Gerald Gargus joins FVSD Family as Director, Educational Services

Dr. Gargus began his career as an elementary school teacher in Los Angeles Unified School District, teaching both 4th and 5th grades. He then moved into an administrative role as a middle school assistant principal in Westminster School District, where he was later promoted to an elementary school principal and then to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. In addition, Jerry spent three years in Los Alamitos Unified School District as an elementary principal.  Dr. Gargus joins the Fountain Valley School District from Torrance Unified School District, where he served as Coordinator of Intervention and Instruction for their 17 elementary schools.  In this role, Jerry led a team of nine TOSAs.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Gargus join our District.  He is a proven leader who has done great work in various roles.  More importantly, his passion for ensuring the success of all students aligns with the vision of our district,” noted Superintendent Dr. Mark Johnson.  “We are confident that his strong work ethic, collaborative approach and kind demeanor will help him make a seamless transition to his new position.  We welcome him to the FVSD Family!” 

Dr. Gargus earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Marshall University, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California.  Jerry and his wife, Karen, a first grade teacher in Torrance Unified School District, love spending time with their two children.  In addition, Dr. Gargus enjoys outdoor activities, traveling and going to USC football games.
