We are excited to invite Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten parents to join our community for the 2026-2027 school year, starting with our kickoff event on Thursday, February 19th, at 1:30 PM at each of our seven elementary schools!
Fountain Valley School District wants every child to be prepared for success in school and life. Our TK/Kindergarten programs serve as the launching pad for those successes. The District takes pride in offering all children an engaging, rigorous, and enjoyable learning experience. The Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten teachers at FVSD are dedicated to implementing a standards-aligned instructional program in technologically advanced classrooms while also supporting social-emotional development.
Transitional Kindergarten (TK)
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) serves as a bridge between preschool and kindergarten for children who turn 4 on or before September 1, 2026, for the 2026-27 school year. It is the first part of a two-year kindergarten program aimed at laying a strong foundation for success in school. FVSD's TK program supports children in developing the academic, social, and emotional skills they need to thrive in kindergarten and beyond. This program is a full-day program.
Kindergarten
Kindergarten is available for children who turn 5 on or before September 1, 2026. This program provides a rigorous learning experience driven by California State Standards. FVSD's kindergarten classrooms provide a structured setting with both whole-group and small-group instruction. Teachers focus on differentiating instruction to meet each child's individual needs. FVSD's kindergarten is also a full-day program.

How do I enroll my child?
Enrollment for TK is the same as for Kindergarten. Please visit your school of residence to enroll your child in the program.
I am unsure which grade my student should be enrolled in. How do I know what grade level they should be placed in?
Fountain Valley School District strictly follows the California Education Code (Education Code 48000 and 48010) on age eligibility for entry to TK and Kindergarten programs. The criteria used to determine grade level is the student's date of birth. Please use the grade-level placement chart to determine your child's correct placement.
Are TK students subject to the Kindergarten immunization requirements?
Yes. TK students must have documentation of required immunizations or a valid exemption before admission. Students must meet TK/Kindergarten immunization requirements for admission.
What is the TK school schedule?
TK school schedules are identical to our primary grades, Kindergarten - 2nd grade. Fountain Valley Schools have varying start/end times. Please refer to the bell schedule to determine school start/end times.
