FVSD Textbook & Materials Adoption - Community Input

June 1, 2023

During the 2022-23 school year, Fountain Valley School District (FVSD) piloted new instructional materials to support 6th-8th Grade English Language Arts and English Language Development. In selecting the pilot programs, teams of teachers from all middle school sites and grade levels worked with FVSD's Teacher on Special Assignment, Page Hertzberg, and coordinators from the Orange County Department of Education to select two vendors from the California State Board of Education approved materials list.

The first set of materials, CA Collections (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), was piloted in October and November of 2022, with the pilot of the second set of materials, StudySync (McGraw-Hill), occurring in February and March 2023. In April 2023, the Instructional Materials Review Team met and reached a consensus on recommending the StudySync program to the Board of Trustees for consideration of adoption for the Fountain Valley School District.

As part of FVSD Board Policy and Administrative Regulation 6161.1(a), we are conducting our community input process which began on Friday, April 28, 2023, and will continue through June 14, 2023. If you are interested in a virtual preview of the StudySync program, please click here to access a Padlet contain information about the program.  The password for the Padlet is "studysync". We want to thank all of the teachers that served on FVSD's Instructional Materials Review Team, as well as those that participated in the piloting process of the instructional programs.  We look forward to conducting a public hearing associated with the adoption process at the June 15, 2023, regularly-scheduled Board Meeting.
